Significant sights and Landmarks on Aegina

Aegina has a long history, dating from the Neolithic (4th millennium BC) to the later years. There are many significant landmarks to discover.

One of the most visited sites on Aegina is the church of Agios Nektarios (Saint Nectarios) and the monastery of Agia Triada (The Holy Trinity). Stunning building and views.

Aegina is world famous for Pistachio Nuts and often voted the best in the world! We have been harvesting these nuts for over 100 years.

Only 10 minutes away from Aegina lies Moni Island with crystal clear waters, beautiful nature and friendly wildlife.

Aegina has long been a haven for a variety of artists including Nikos Nikolaou (a major figure in Greek art during the 20th century), The Greek sculptor, painter and engraver, Christos Kapralos, and Nikos Kazantzakis, one of the greatest writers of his era, and more!

This calming and impressive Olive grove lies in a sacred valley on an extinct volcano! Some trees are over 2,000 years old!

Palechora (meaning "Old Town") is Aegina's version of Mystras! Stroll around this medieval village built in the 9th century; it was the capital of the island until 1826.

A beautiful Ancient Greek temple (540 BC) located within a sanctuary complex dedicated to the goddess Aphaia. This area has been a place of worship since prehistoric times (1300 B.C.)!

An impressive archaeological site with several layers of civilisation exposed. It was an important town packing during the Bronze Age (2500-1600 B.C.). In archaic times a temple of Apollo was erected on the site. There is an impressive museum there too!

Art Tours
Aegina is an artist's heaven inspiring many. An island of creativity and inspiration! And with the sublime crystal clear sea has seduced artists for hundreds of years. The tour starts as soon as you set foot on the island you are welcomed with the "Gate of Aegina", by sculptor Κostas Varotsos and some street art. We will visit the Museum of Christos Kapralos and see his bronze statue of "The Mother", and, the neoclassical house of the writer Nikos Kazantzakis, where he completed his work "Odyssey".

Aegina has been mentioned in mythology, according to Herodotus, Aegina was a colony of Epidauros. Aristophanes and Pausanias mentioned, in their writing, that Aegina had a temple of Asclepios dedicated to the god of medicine and healing.

A Brief History of Aegina
Aegina has been inhabited since Neolithic times! It has a fascinating heritage, and oozes culture, having held many significant roles over its history. It is also home to one of the most important, influential, and well-preserved ancient temples in Greece.
According to ancient mythology, Aegina owes its name to the nymph Aegina, the daughter of the river god Asopus, whom Zeus, of course, seduced!!
